Pugs are a brachycephalic breed, characterized by their short snouts and flat faces, which can lead to various health issues. These include breathing difficulties, eye problems, dental issues, and heat intolerance.

As a pug owner, I’m biased, of course. But let’s look at the facts…

pug chewingWhether you just got a new pug puppy, or have an older pug that just can’t stop chewing, don’t worry – I have you covered.

Of course, it’s better to treat the behavior early (ie. as a puppy) because it can often be hard to re-train a behavior that has developed over years.

Start Here: How to Effectively Train a Pug

Pug puppies are known for their lively and playful nature. However, their chewing tendencies can pose a challenge for pet owners. Puppies explore the world by mouthing objects, and pugs are no exception. The TRUE Cost of a Pug Puppy in 2023

True Cost of a Pug PuppyAs a longtime pug owner, and 3-years after Benji’s passing, I was ready to get another pug. So if you’re thinking about getting a pug puppy, I can definitely help!

I’ve already covered How Much Does a Pug Cost Over it’s Lifespan, in this post we’ll dive into the specifics of the cost of ownership of a pug puppy. But first, if you’re thinking about getting a pug start here:

Pugs have become popular over the years for various reasons, and one of the most notable features of pugs is their adorable, wrinkly faces and expressive eyes. These features make them instantly recognizable and endearing to many people. Additionally, pugs are known for their friendly and affectionate personalities. Pugs quickly form strong bonds with their owners and become loyal companions. Additionally, they are generally good with kids and other pets, they’re pretty easy to train (they’re very food motivated!), which makes them an excellent choice for families.

My Favorite Brushes for Shedding Pug in 2023

shedding-black-pug2

Pugs may have short, fine coats that seem easy to maintain. However, do you know that they are notorious shedders? With my first pug (which was the popular fawn color), it became near impossible to wear all black without tidying up with a lint roller.

And of course, if you’re already a pug owner, you know the struggle of constantly battling pet hair on your clothes and furniture. A pug’s fur can be challenging to maintain, but fortunately, many deshedding brushes are available to help control your pug’s shedding.

But when choosing a brush, there’s a lot of things to consider:

  • Which brush will be comfortable for your pug, some are metal, some are rubber. Because it could be the best brush in the world, but if your pug absolutely hates the feeling – is that the one you want?
  • Price – some can be close to $50 some are around $10… and then of course there are vacuums coming out that can essentially de-shed your pug for you!

Benji the Pug

Benji AKA The Notorious PUG as a puppy

Keep Calm and Pug On! How to Effectively Train Your Pug

Many Pug owners would say that their dogs are the light of their lives – perky, loveable and clownish, these toy breed dogs are amazing canine companions. After you’ve fallen in love with their big brown eyes, funny faces and stubby bodies, however, you might find that a Pug’s personality isn’t quite what you expected – they’re independent, naughty, get into everything that’s edible, and darn it – they just peed on the floor again! Although some people tend to pigeonhole Pugs into the ‘dumb puppy’ category, they actually aren’t that stupid. Most Pugs, in fact, are quite intelligent, tough, and stubborn enough to hold out on you in order to get their own way. Like any other dog, they can become positive terrors without clear boundaries and consistent training, so let’s take a look at how you can effectively help your Pug to become a (mostly) model citizen. (Hey, no dog is perfect!)

Update 2023: RIP Benji (above). It’s been 3 years since his passing and I just missed having a pug… I would like to introduce everyone to Lats the Pug! And take a look at how her training is going just at just 9 weeks old:
