[Pug Sizes] How Big Do Pugs Get on Average?

Let’s start with the gold standard, the American Kennel Club (AKC) Breed Standard, which states that a pugs weight between “14-18 pounds is desirable.”

But on average, most pugs you see are going to be 20 pounds plus… Benji weighed in at 21 pounds and at the many pug meetups that I’ve been to, and he was actually among the smallest.

If you’re looking to get a pup puppy (preferably from a reputable breeder), an important sizing consideration is whether or not you’ll be able to fly commercially with your pug. At 21 lbs, Benji never had an issue flying but at his size but any bigger and there could have been potential issues. While you’ll never know the exact size they’ll grow up to be, since I am getting a new pug puppy, getting one where the parents were both under 20 pounds was a pretty important consideration for me.

How Much Do Pugs Cost? (Initial Price & Yearly Costs)

pug-lifeIt’s about that time again, 3 years after my pug passed away (whom this site was created for), it’s time for me to get a new pug puppy 🥰.

I’ll be updating my posts on this website as I raise my new pup, starting with my guide on How Much Do Pugs Cost?

Thinking about adopting or buying a pug and you want to know about how much a pug costs?

It’s a big decision, getting a pug is almost like having a kid.

Pugs have become increasingly popular over the past few years, which has lead to a price surge. Back when I bought Benji in 2010 (aka the Notorious PUG) from a reputable breeder, the going rate was about $500.

Now the average price for a pug is about $1000-$2000 for a puppy, and usually under $500 to rescue a pug. They’ll cost about $2000 in the first year, and about $1500 a year after that. This includes various things like dog food, toys, treats, vet bills (or pet insurance), grooming and more.

Are Pugs Aggressive? Here’s the truth…

pugs-aggressive

Short Version: At the end of the day, personality traits are part genetic, but also adopted from the environment that they are raised in. Pugs can be aggressive, but I’ve personally been around hundreds of pugs and have yet to run in a single aggressive one. But of course there’s a sampling bias because I’ll usually see pugs and meetups and events, thus the owners that are likely to come generally have behaved dogs.

Pug Colors – AKC Standard and Rare Pug Colors

There are a variety of colors that pugs can be, but the most common colors are fawn and black, the only two recognized colors by the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Wait, does that mean pugs that aren’t fawn or black can’t be registered with the AKC?
